Closer to Home

First things first. I promised to make
Remy the Dachshund famous.

As best I could.
He so deserves a wider audience than I can provide.
My readership is not nearly as big as your average Sunday crowd at Eastern Market in Washington, D.C.
Which is why Remy's human companions had the good sense to bring him out on a gorgeous Labor Day Weekend, so his many potential admirers could get a gander at him.
And at the
perfectly ripened watermelons being sold from plastic kiddie pools along the walkway. And at the exquisite art, photography, and antiques the market is known for, the Chinese and French and early American furniture and the architectural salvage that gets Stuart dangerously excited.
And at the many good-junque baubles that shimmered and sparkled in the sun, attracting me and my daughter like a couple of starlings.

And at the dizzying marvels made by hand: essential oils and incense, silk and wicker purses, pressed-flower paper, scarves, baby clothes, silver jewelry, fragrant soaps, candles, and floor cloths.
And more, and more, and more.
So amazing for there to be such beautiful plenty in this place, such chaos elsewhere, and all at once.
What a world.

Great post Lisa!!
Looks like a great street fair. Forwarded your site to my brother and sister-in-law who live in Arlington. It's just the type of thing they would enjoy.
Will now watch for Remy's career to take off.
So much! I need a whole afternoon to take it all in. Lots of links to follow, you'll keep me "occupado" for a looong while with your two last posts...
I checked some of them randomly and I must say the theiving magpies (or birds, anyway) really amaze me! Can they be trained to bring the endless stream of pennies to me, do you think?
